When to Have Private Mommy and Me Classes

May 24, 2019 by Betsy

The benefits of Mommy and Me classes, particularly outside in nature, are innumerable, especially for those living a busy life in the bustling city.

Some parents seek social experiences for their little ones and themselves to break the isolation inevitable in early parenting. Others find they are so busy that they do need to schedule a parent-child class to dedicate time to connect with their children, one on one without interruption.

Over the years, I have taught many private classes for families in Los Angeles, and here are some of the reasons this works for some families:

  • A unique lifestyle that precludes a consistent availability to attend classes at a prescribed time: Particularly in Los Angeles, parents may be called away on business and/or have many travel appointments scheduled within a three-month period.
  • Developmental needs: I have taught classes to children with developmental differences including autism, down syndrome, atypical brain development and attentional issues.
  • Specific skill building and personal bonding: Classes such as infant massage and skill building, minus the stimulus of socializing, create a peaceful and powerful bond between parent-child or any other caregiver as well as allow children to deeply integrate and move through developmental milestones.
  • Privacy: Some families who are recognizable to the public prefer to create a private class with the family alone or a few personal friends.

The Mommy and Me classes that I have taught privately are meaningful and enriching. I am grateful for the intimacy and connection gained from these experiences for the children, parents, and myself.
